Changing your business’s name can be as simple as writing a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or filling out a particular field in your usual tax return form—as long as your change does not include a change of ownership or address.

If the Employer Identification Number (EIN) was recently assigned and filing liability has yet to be determined, write to the IRS as IRS-Stop 343G, Cincinnati, OH 45999 and inform them of the change.
